OUR MISSION
The Winding Sheet Outfit makes carefully crafted new work based on historical lives and old stories.
We invite the audience to feel seen, be moved, and leave the theater yearning to learn more. about The Winding Sheet outfit
In 2012, Amber Bjork and Kristina Fjellman put together their first collaboration on Birds of Passage for the Minnesota Fringe Festival. Since then, they choreographed dances, participated in parodies, held private seance performances, and--with the help of Megan Campbell Lagas, Brigid Kelley, and Kayla Dvorak Feld--created the Tiny Clandestines.
The Theatre of the Tiny Clandestines ran for two seasons--September of 2013 (thanks to an Irrigate Grant through Springboard for the Arts) and once a month over half a year in 2015 (thanks to a Saint Paul Arts Challenge Grant through the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation) . It returned at the beginning of 2018 as part of the Art Shanty Projects on Lake Harriet in Minneapolis. In 2017, The Winding Sheet Outfit came back to the Minnesota Fringe Festival with The Memory Box of the Sisters Fox, which won the encore slot in its venue and a critic's pick award from Twin Cities Arts Reader. The show was remounted for a limited engagement run in November 2017. The next year, Blood Nocturne premiered at the Fringe and won three Golden Lanyard Awards from Minnesota Fringe voters, as well as Best of Fringe from Twin Cities Arts Reader. In 2019, You Are Cordially Invited to the Life and Death of Edward Lear took home two Golden Lanyard Awards from the Minnesota Fringe. The same year, TWSO made their debut at the Twin Cities Horror Festival with a new piece about Lewis Carroll entitled ...And What Alice Found There. In 2020, TWSO produced their first live-streaming show When Your Love Sets You On Fire, made for Twin Cities Horror Festival's 9th season taking place online. And their first in-person show after the pandemic was a remount of Blood Nocturne at the 2021 TCHF. They have produced one short film, That Time Napoleon Was Attacked by Bunnies specifically for FringeMiss, an artist-led fundraiser of online performances to benefit Minnesota Fringe when COVID-19 shut down the festival and live theater as we know it. And they have produced one full-length film, The Darger Project aka the Darger Project for the 2021 Minnesota Virtual Fringe Festival. In 2022, they returned to the Minnesota Fringe, premiering a new show--ÅRSGÅNG: What You Follow Follows You--at the annual festival. Their first collaborative project happened at the Twin Cities Horror Festival where they joined up with Special When Lit to present Stabby Stab Stab based on the Slenderman stabbing of 2014 Waukesha Wisconsin--a sold-out performance that inspired a remount for the 2023 Minnesota Fringe Festival. In 2023 they will appear at TCHF for a fifth time, this time to remount Marie-Jeanne Valet Who Defeated La Bete du Gevaudan.
